We’re proud to welcome onboard Deptherapy as the DCA’s Official Charity Partner.
Deptherapy is a registered charity running specially adapted scuba diving programmes for seriously injured serving personnel and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their dependants and similar persons from the ‘blue light’ services.
The charity aims to support and help injured and current ex-serving members of the British Armed Forces and work with those suffering from life changing mental and physical challenges.
Through a developmental approach to rehabilitation, Deptherapy first of all teaches programme members how to scuba dive in the clear and warm waters of the Red Sea. Once qualified as open water divers, they help set goals and objectives for progression within scuba diving, developing members through programmes and expeditions.
Many people with physical injuries who have been on Deptherapy’s programmes report that the weightlessness scuba diving provides allows them to be pain free, for many the first time since injury. For those with PTSD it provides a calming environment, as one programme member describes: “When I put my head under the water, the demons disappear.”
Deptherapy Education also provides training and advice to dive professionals and organisations as to how to adapt scuba diving skills so that those with disabilities might qualify as scuba divers.
Paul Gisby, Founder of the DCA, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Deptherapy as our Official Charity Partner. We want to recognise and showcase the amazing work the charity does for injured veterans and help raise its profile with dive centres across the globe. If you want to find out more about how it is helping to change lives visit www.deptherapy.co.uk or keep an eye on the DCA website and subscribe to our newsletter for regular updates.”
